John Hutton President for 2 years from January 2010

The President and Members of the Council wish you all a Merry Christmas & A Prosperous New Year

 Presidents Notes December 2011

As Christmas approaches so does the end of my term as  President after two most enjoyable years during which I have been proud to have served the Society as your President.

We have had many highlights during that time particularly our weekends away with Keith's Tours and the Annual Lunches at Colne Valley Golf Club. I do hope that those of you  who did participate enjoyed the variety of activities provided and for those who could not well there is always next year.

I really must thank all those who contributed to our programme, to Les Handley for publishing it, Bob Light for printing it and of course John Pyle and his Committee for setting it all up. Well done.

During the two years we have amended the Constitution (subject to approval at the AGM) and changed the ways our activities and publicity are organised in the hope to reach a wider audience.

We have recruited a number of new Members although inevitably we have also lost some but our membership numbers are still healthy and we have good attendances at our meetings and visits.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas and good luck, good health and peace in the New Year.

John Hutton

Engineering Society Bowling Practice.

My penchant for imitating a rain dance witchdoctor continued again this year when a downpour washed out any hope of playing on the agreed date and I have not yet been able to arrange another time.
I will advise all who expressed an interest of new arrangements when they can be set up.

(1) Mike Rumsey.
Mike is retiring from the Council at the AGM after many years active -  and I mean active -service. He will be sorely missed at Council where his dynamic personality and work ethic not to mention his determination and perseverance shone through.
It was Mike who inspired the Society to promote the Robotics event as well as the recycling challenge, both much enjoyed by children and adults alike. His original ideas were always taken seriously by the Council and have helped to promote the Engineering Society  to the wider community.
Mike, may I thank you most sincerely for your significant contribution to the work of the Society over the years and on behalf of Members and others who have benefited from your inspiration I wish you a long, happy and healthy retirement which I have no doubt will only enable you to take on some other challenge. We all wish you well in whatever you do. Our best wishes also go to Lorna for giving us so much of your time.

(2) Rick Shawcross.
Rick is also retiring from the Council at the AGM after many years service to the Society as a Member of  Council and for four years as our Summer Programme organiser virtually on his own. He also showed willing support for many of the events we organised and Sue was always willing to help us in the calligraphy department and will continue to do so.
Rick we have greatly appreciated all your efforts and I thank you for your time and support.
Every good wish to you and Sue in your retirement.
